There’s no denying the deliciousness of a mango, but peeling and cutting it can be a hassle. Here are several videos showing different techniques in cutting a mango.
First make sure you’re buying a mango that’s actually ripe. Green mangos are often used in Thai and Indian cuisines, but for eating out of hand, they’re too tough and sour. Unlike a banana, you can’t always decipher a mango’s ripeness by color alone. Instead, gently squeeze the mango. A ripe one will depress slightly to the touch and give the stem end a sniff. If the mango has a fresh, fruity aroma, it’s ripe. What you risk in looking weird in the produce section you save in a sweeter mango at home.
